Les nouvelles réglementations et and nouveau look du championnat mondial ont inspiré un renouveau chez Ford. Après 30 ans passés à faire courir les Escort préparées par l'équipe bien implantée à Boreham, Ford a porté le développement d'un tout nouveau modèle, la Focus, par les opération du Malcom Wilson M-Sport. Le résultat fut issu d'une feuille blanche. Quand ils commencèrent à travailler sur la Focus WRC, il n'y avait aucune voiture en référence.
Elle a été l'objet de tous les commentaires avant comme pendant l'épreuve. Conforme ou non, la nouvelle Ford a effectué des débuts impressionnants. Incroyable mais vrai: sans ses problèmes des deux premières spéciales, McRae pouvait s'imposer.

New regulations and a new look to the World Championship inspired a fresh commiment from Ford. After 30 Years largely spent rallying Escorts prepared by a well-established team at Boreham, Ford Handed the development of an entirely new model, the Focus, to Malcom Wilson's M-Sport operation. The result was a genuine clean sheet of paper design. When they started to work on the Focus WRC, there was no completed road car for reference.
The car was the subject of all commentaries before the race. In conformity or not, the new Ford realized its starter in an wonderfull way. Incroyable but right, without his problems in the two first ES, McRae could have win.
